Andorra

Climate:

Andorra is hot in summer, and it is cold in winter. Andorra is very small, and it is squashed like sandwich filling between France and Spain.

Provinces:

Andorra has 7 provinces, called Canillo, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra la Vella, Sant Julià de Lòria, La Massana, and Ordino.

History:

People believe that Andorra was created by Charlemagne, and later ruled by the count of Urgell until 998. In 1278, Andorra joined the paréage arrangement, and in 1993 it gained more power with the parliamentary government. Andorra has two heads of state: the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell.

Andorra has kept a different 'countryality', shaped by its location in the Pyrenees Mountains, and also by its colonial ties to Catalonia.

Its official language is Catalan, re-visiting those Catalonia ties. Andorra's earliest document known to man is from the year 839.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, roads connecting France and Spain to Andorra were built, allowing lots of people to migrate to France and Spain.

Also, women were allowed to vote in 1970, so women were voting in the 1971 elections.

In 1972, Andorrans founded the first Andorran government, other than keeping the local governing companies.

In 1993, Andorrans approved the first constitution. Andorra also joined the UN in 1993, and also the Council of Europe in 1994, becoming more international.
